Restored Onehunga Foreshore officially opened!
Over a thousand people attended the official opening of Taumanu Reserve on Saturday 14 November.
The $30 M development between SH20 and Manukau Harbour provides Aucklanders with their first significant access to the Onehunga seashore since the 1970s. It features beaches, a bridge, open spaces and connecting paths.
The site was blessed by mana whenua at dawn before being opened to the public for the first time. A civic ceremony and ribbon cutting took place later in the day.
Mayor Len Brown and New Zealand Government representatives officiated the civic ceremony that signifies the culmination of a lot of hard work for many people here at Tonkin + Taylor. We have been lead designers and planners for this project for over five years and a large number of our staff and Geotechnics staff have worked on the project during this time.
Auckland Council Parks and the Community are thrilled with the outcome – the park being described as ‘stunning’ and ‘beautiful’ amongst other superlatives.
Well done to all of those who were involved in this extremely successful project.
