Trip Through Massive Waterview Tunnel
The largest and most expensive infrastructure project in New Zealand’s history is almost finished and here’s a sneak peak of just how massive the new roading system is.
Auckland’s Waterview Connection includes twin 2.5 km long tunnels. Both northbound and southbound tunnels are three lanes wide and dip to 50m below ground at the deepest point.
The size and complexity of the project meant there was no way one company could have delivered this alone.
Tonkin + Taylor is part of the Well-Connected Alliance that designed and is constructing the Waterview Connection.
The $1.4B asset is being delivered to NZTA early next year.
The Well-Connected Alliance comprises: NZTA, Fletcher Construction, McConnell Dowell, Obayashi Corporation, Tonkin + Taylor, Beca and Parsons Brinkerhoff for the design and construction phase of the project.
