Clint serves as Tonkin + Taylor’s Sector Director for Water, and is a specialist in program management, master planning, wastewater, stormwater, collection systems, wastewater treatment, overflow management and wet weather programs including stormwater flood solutions development. In this role he is tasked with working for T+T to connect to our company’s full knowledge, and leverage that to the benefit of our key clients.
Prior to joining T + T, Clint served as the global practice leader for stormwater and wastewater for a large multi-national consultancy. His extensive international experience in consulting and public utilities includes large city master planning, treatment plant assessments and optimisation, sewer system assessments and rehabilitation, SSO and CSO programs, regulatory negotiations, hydraulic and water quality modelling, stormwater flood programs, wastewater master planning, watershed programs, implementation of wet weather control and treatment technologies, tunnel design, flow monitoring, GIS and data management, and capital improvement planning. Mr. Cantrell has worked on large programs throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. This includes living and working in residence to lead programs in the US, UK, and New Zealand.
Most recently Clint has been engaged with large public water companies in New Zealand and Australia to develop risk based frameworks for driving optimised capital investment strategies that yield maximum value. He was a key technical advisor to Sydney Water on their re-licensing of wastewater discharges using a risk based approach which ultimately will save several billions dollars in compliance related cost – and will deliver better outcomes for the community. He’s involved with similar programs for Melbourne Water, Yarra Valley Water, QUU in Brisbane, Hamilton City Council and Christchurch City Council.
Clint also recently served as an expert advisor to Watercare on the review of their Central Interceptor deep tunnel project, which is New Zealand’s largest ever wastewater scheme design to provide capacity for growth and mitigation of wastewater overflow effects. Prior to this Clint led the concept design and consenting for this scheme, and also developed a master plan for upgrading Watercare’s Mangere wastewater treatment plant, the largest treatment plant of its kind in New Zealand. Clint is also providing strategic technical advice to Auckland’s Healthy Waters on a strategy for compliance with the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management, as well as strategies for mitigating the risk of effects of stormwater pollution on marine environments.
