Richard Hancy is a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), reporting to Doug Johnson, T+T’s Group Managing Director. He is an experienced business leader with over 24 years’ experience in both the private and public sectors.
He has an extensive background in business management, governance, project management, stakeholder and management, transport planning, transport modelling, demand forecasting, development of land use/transportation assessments, and travel demand management.
Richard’s expertise in managing complex transportation projects is significant. His specialities include transport planning and modelling, demand forecasting, development of land use/transportation assessments, travel demand management, business management, stakeholder management, project governance and project management.
He has been leadingTonkin + Taylor’s Engineering Division (including Advisory, Geotechnical and Infrastructure disciplines) across all geographies including NZ, Australia and the Pacific. He is accountable for performance, as well as the development and execution of strategic growth (emerging opportunities) to support business development objectives.

Further North Planning Alliance, NZTA. Project Alliance Board (PAB) member. The Alliance secured consents for the Puhoi to Wellsford Road of National Significance.
Auckland City Centre Future Access Study (CCFAS), Auckland Transport. Team Leader responsible for delivering a multi-modal strategy addressing Auckland CBD’s future transport options to support the recently adopted Auckland Plan.
Eastern Waterfront Access Study (EWAS), NZTA. Facilitator responsible for leading multi-party stakeholder workshops at key project milestones.
Da Nang Sustainable City Project, Vietnam, World Bank. Peer reviewer of transport planning aspects including demand modelling for a new bus rapid transit scheme.
Additional Waitemata Harbour Crossing- Transport and Toll Modelling, NZTA. Team leader responsible for development of traffic and toll forecasts as well as economic assessment.
Operations Review, NZTA. Provided advice regarding the organisational structure and functionality required to deliver network operations within the NZTA Auckland Highways and Network Operations team.
