John is a Chartered Civil Engineer who practices as a specialist consultant in project delivery, tunnelling and ground engineering. He will often act as the project manager, lead design or technical manager on major projects where he is responsible for overseeing the quality and financial performance of projects whilst engaging with clients at all stages to ensure their needs are met. He combines technical skills in ground and civil engineering with project management and team leadership to lead consultant team’s timely delivery of robust and effective infrastructure.
During his career he has undertaken roles as the client’s project manager, Engineer to the Contract and Engineers Representative at all stages of delivery. John is familiar with managing stakeholder interests, the selection of appropriate procurement approaches and is an experienced report writer and communicator. In addition, he is proficient in contract administration, risk management, quality control, leading engaged workforces, and project partnering, the subject of his MBA dissertation.
He has an outstanding track record of working in collaborative environments for projects in NZ and overseas, including Hong Kong’s metro lines, maritime structures, power stations and highways. John has built an exemplary reputation for delivering complex infrastructure and managing specialists through feasibility studies, concept and detail design, procurement and construction.

John has been responsible for preparing expert evidence for district council and Environment Court hearings, including Watercare’s Central Interceptor, Orewa coastal protection scheme and Auckland Airport Runway. He has also provided technical support to Wellington Water, Watercare, Auckland Council, contractors and private developers. His work has included the engineering design for some of New Zealand’s largest transport projects, such as City Rail Link, Additional Waitematā Harbour Crossing and SH16.
