Roger is a Restoration Ecologist with more than 30 years’ experience in environmental restoration and management, applied research, environmental education and project management. He has experience in most areas of terrestrial and freshwater ecology and has particular expertise in the restoration of natural, modified and damaged sites, applied to the water, land, energy and transport sectors. Roger has worked in every region of New Zealand and in Hawaii, Vanuatu and Australia. Over the past two decades, Roger’s work has been focused on developing new tools, technology and practices to improve the state of our biodiversity, especially in developed areas, and to assist the agricultural sector to reduce the impact of farming activities on waterways and biodiversity. This work has included the design and construction of predator proof fencing, and the design, construction and rehabilitation of wetlands for nutrient treatment, wastewater tertiary treatment and biodiversity enhancement. Roger has worked extensively with Māori, particularly in the areas of land use optimisation, indigenous forestry, environmental enhancement and pest management, and he has considerable experience presenting expert evidence at RMA and Environment Court hearings.
