Shamus is the Discipline Director of the Geotechnical Discipline at Tonkin + Taylor. He is based in Christchurch and, when not involved in discipline initiatives, keeps himself busy as an Engineering Geologist.
Following the 2010/2011earthquakes in Christchurch Shamus was part of the T+T team that formed the Land Damage Assessment Team, which supported the Earthquake Commission in responding to the Canterbury Earthquakes. That feat was instrumental in him being recognised by ACENZ (Association of Consulting Engineers New Zealand) in 2012 when he picked up the Future Leader Award. The Land Damage Assessment Team (LDAT) also won the ACENZ Gold Award of Excellence in 2012.
Shamus enjoys working with people to ensure that they enjoy their job and perform at their best. The T+T Geotechnical Discipline is the largest group of geotechnical professionals in New Zealand. The discipline has grown considerably over the last several years and now numbers some 200 employees spread across New Zealand and Australia. The Geotechnical Discipline is the foundation that T+T is built on and we are lucky enough to have staff that have been with T+T for over 30 years working with our clients and supporting all our staff in contributing to ongoing excellence in geotechnical consulting. T+T is involved with many of the key engineering projects/developments around New Zealand and this makes T+T and in particular the Geotechnical Discipline a great place to learn and grow as a geotechnical consultant.
Shamus joined Tonkin + Taylor in 2003.
