Podcast Episode Twelve – Powering the Future, The Global Energy Transition
What does the energy transition look like across the globe? In this episode, we take a tour through four very different regions, Azerbaijan, Germany, Singapore, and New Zealand, with experts who are on the ground shaping the future of energy.
Peter Struck (HPC), Ilkin Haji (Sustainera Solutions), Andrew Young (Envirosolutions & Consulting), and Scott Thomas (Tonkin + Taylor) share what energy transition means in their part of the world, and why no two journeys look quite the same.
In New Zealand, where around 85% of electricity already comes from renewable sources, Scott explains that the focus is on scaling up to meet growing demand. “Our energy transition isn’t so much about switching to renewables, it’s about growing what we already have,” he says.
Over in Singapore, Andrew highlights regional mega-projects like the world’s longest undersea cable connecting to Australia, evidence of how cross-border cooperation is powering the transition forward. “That’s what the energy transition is driving, big, bold ideas on a regional scale,” he explains.
Ilkin brings a powerful perspective from Azerbaijan, where the future is green hydrogen and long-distance pipelines to Europe. “This isn’t something one country can do alone,” he says. “We’re working with neighbours to make it happen.”
And in Germany, Peter notes a shift in the industry itself: “Oil and gas companies are now some of the biggest investors in renewables.”
It’s a fascinating global snapshot of progress, ambition, and collaboration. Listen in and see how the energy transition is taking shape—one region at a time.
