Sector Director - Transportation
The consistently excellent delivery of motorway engineering design and construction has propelled Chris Perks from design manager to director of Tonkin + Taylor's transportation sector in under five years. The mid-30s rugby mad lad from Leicestershire is responsible for 25% of T+T's annual revenue.
A veteran of high profile, high value projects across Australia, New Zealand, Dubai and the UK – including Dubai’s £UK1 billion Al Wasl Scheme - he has an established international reputation for technical excellence in transportation engineering, including roads and drainage design.
A Design and Project Manager for multi-disciplinary, multi-consultancy infrastructure projects, Chris is a highly regarded and skilled negotiator, team builder, facilitator, programme developer and innovator.
His breadth of knowledge and expertise in statutory processes were clearly illustrated in his recent role as Design Manager for Stage 1 of the Auckland Light Rail Investigation.
Responsible for the developing the design and associated technical information supporting the draft design and consent application, Chris co-ordinated inputs from six multi-disciplinary consultancies, successfully enabling the application to be developed within just two months.
As senior Project Manager for the $NZ1.3 billion Puhoi to Wellsford Road of National Significance, Chris worked to establish design standards and service requirements, while co-ordinating consultant and public inputs to ensure Government Policy Statement objectives were met. He was later appointed Acting Principal Project Manager and gained approval to introduce an innovative procurement model to New Zealand.
