Darran Humpheson has 27 years’ experience as an acoustic consultant. He started his career working for the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence and was formally Head of the Royal Air Force’s Noise and Vibration Division. Whilst in that post, he gained a wide experience in acoustics, including projects in military aviation, weapons noise, occupational noise and vibration, environmental noise assessment and research. Darran then moved on to private consultancy where he has been involved principally in environmental noise. He has provided advice and guidance to national and local government departments and has been involved in a wide variety of assessments including research projects, environmental impact assessments, underwater acoustics and health impact assessments. Darran is an experienced expert witness and has presented evidence on various subject matters including renewable energy, industrial and mixed use developments, transportation, noise nuisance and litigation.
Darran holds a masters in environmental acoustics and a honours degree in applied physics. He is a New Zealand member of the International Standards Organisation’s technical group for noise and is a member of the Acoustical Society of New Zealand and the Institute of Acoustics.
