Before pivoting into the digital space, John was a longstanding Geotechnical engineer of 26 years and is now a digital product director. John works with clients to provide practical engineering advice and digital solutions to solve complex problems. He strives to develop collaborative cultures between government, private sector and NGOs to align efforts to make a better world. He has a reputation for providing practical solutions that have successfully addressed challenges around disaster risk reduction and disaster recovery across NZ and the Pacific. Increasingly Digital solutions are being used to help solve these problems. Examples of digital products include developing the World Food Programme’s Pre-positioned stock site ‘PALM’, the ‘CAN-DO’ agencies Pacific Evacuation centre App, the NZ Geotechnical Database, the Kaikoura Earthquake Response Viewer and others.
John is a strong believer in using collective engineering skills to develop practical solutions and digital products to solve complex multidisciplinary problems. As a founding member of the MBIE Advisory Group, John’s 20-year career spans NZ, the UK and wider Pacific in leading Natural Disaster related projects from a geotechnical perspective.
