Peter is a visionary Design Manager with extensive experience of large-scale national and international design and construct (D&C) infrastructure projects, particularly rail and road.
He relishes the challenges and opportunities inherent in large scale, horizontal infrastructure projects – in particular the way they deliver major changes which impact positively on the way societies live and operate, and the turnkey (D&C) process they are usually delivered under.
Every Design and Construct (D&C) project is, according to Peter, a chance to think on his feet, an opportunity to devise novel, elegant solutions to on-site challenges, and to be involved from inception through to delivery while working collaboratively with the whole team of designers, constructors and stakeholders to create better, more rounded designs.
This was evident in his work as Geotechnical Design Manager for the second Tauranga Harbour Link. Peter managed T+T’s detailed design, deploying new to New Zealand technologies which addressed complex geotechnical issues while delivering multi-million dollar savings.
A fluent speaker of Mandarin, Peter is also an excellent team leader, providing high levels of guidance and respected for his ability to relate well to a diverse range of people across disciplines, organisations and cultures. He is able to ensure that a clear understanding of the requirements and design philosophy is achieved by design team members, as well as reviewers, constructors and key stakeholders.
His effective coordination of the efforts of those involved, combined with his breadth of knowledge and ability to collaborate with the wider team, ensures that efficient, practical and, wherever possible, innovative design solutions are produced.
Peter has led specific geotechnical design teams for a number of D&C projects, including West Rail viaducts and Nam Cheong Station in Hong Kong, where he was stationed as Tonkin and Taylor's Geotechnical Design Manager.
Peter has also successfully steered a range of multi-disciplinary design teams as part of D&C consortiums, including the Dubai LRT Tender project, the Tauranga Harbour Link and, more recently, on the Waterview Connection project – NZ’s largest civil engineering project at the time - where Peter had the role of Civil Design Manager overseeing and coordinating all civil design aspects across the entire project.
