T+T still hard at work on the Waterview Connection project
Waterview Connection, Auckland, New Zealand

The Well-Connected Alliance (WCA) was formed in October 2010 to deliver the Waterview Connection project. T+T is a member of the WCA along with the NZ Transport Agency, Fletcher Construction, McConnell Dowell, Obayashi Corporation, Beca and Parsons Brinkerhoff, Wilson Tunnelling, and SICE.

This project is an example of world class engineering and is New Zealand’s biggest infrastructure project to date. It will provide a pair of 2.4km tunnels connecting SH20 and SH16 in Auckland and is on track for completion in early 2017.

The 10th largest Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) in the world, nicknamed Alice, is being used to bore the tunnels. Alice was recently turned around to bore the second tunnel, taking roughly five months to turn!

We have provided some of the key people required for this project, covering the full range of engineering and environmental consulting services. They include Peter Millar (a member of Project Alliance Board), Pip Hair (the Alliance Culture Manager), Neil Korte (the Geotechnical Design Manager), and Peter Norfolk (the Civil Design Manager).

Our teams cover the full range of disciplines required to make this project happen, including geotechnical, civil, ecological and environmental management, contaminated land, and core IT systems.

With the design phase now largely completed, we have continued to be involved in IT, design and construction support, and the 10 year post-construction operations and maintenance period.
