Michael is an intermediate coastal and civil engineer with a passion for the New Zealand coastline. He has 7 years’ experience at Tonkin + Taylor following completion of a BE(Hons) in Natural Resources Engineering at the University of Canterbury.
He has a wide range of coastal and civil engineering experience including design of coastal protection structures, coastal infrastructure condition assessment, coastal hazard assessment, stormwater and water supply system design. Michael has also been involved in a variety of construction monitoring and contract management roles in his time with Tonkin + Taylor.
Michael enjoys working closely with local authorities and other clients to deliver coastal management and protection solutions. He takes pride in developing practical, economical, and site-specific design solutions to meet project and client requirements.
He has been involved with several major projects in New Zealand including coastal design aspects of the NCTIR project, design coordination and monitoring during the Waitangi and Pitt Island wharf upgrades, design of the Paekākāriki seawall, post-earthquake inspection and recovery at CentrePort and stormwater design at the SH2/SH58 Interchange.
